Gambia Travel Team Update

July 23, 2023
The Gambia travel team is currently continuing their work with the Women’s Initiative of Gambia in effort to create efficient and stable infrastructure, water sources, and help improve food security. To do this the team is monitoring their past projects by implementing a second phase of fence construction around the community garden as well as building additional water tap heads throughout the garden to increase access to clean water. We are also helping teach the community how to build tap heads and repair damages themselves so that the community is able to be self-sufficient.

In addition to improving past projects, there are many ideas in the works for the community that the team is planning and surveying the land for. These prospective projects include creating a safer and more reliable road system, introducing a market for the women to sell excess crops at for additional revenue, and cold storage so that the community is able to enjoy their harvest during the dry season. This surveying is being done through individual interviews as well as running a variety of tests to gain as much insight on the land as possible. The team is grateful to be able to work with the Women’s group and other outside sources, such as our contractor Waterpoint, to make these goals a reality for both the team and the village.
