The Ohio State University Sailing Club is a student-led organization dedicated to providing educational and competitive sailing opportunities to students at Ohio State through the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association. Our primary goal is to make a traditionally expensive, exclusive sport accessible to all college students through low dues. Each member’s dues cover all regatta and practice expenses throughout the season. We have members with a wide range of backgrounds and skill levels, from sailors who competed at a national level, to those who have never stepped foot in a boat before joining. Our club aims to foster a constructive environment in which our members can teach, learn and grow as both sailors and people.

The past few semesters, we have grown as a club and worked towards expanding our offerings. We have added more chalk talks, practices and regattas to give everyone the opportunity to learn and compete. As a result, our club has been successful in both dinghy and offshore regattas, qualified for MSCA Fall Championships in each of the last two seasons, had podium finishes two years in a row at the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta and won the Lake Erie Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta. We have even greater ambitions for 2024, as we plan to compete at 13 regattas across the country.

With our membership growing by 44% over the last year and our burgeoning success on the water, we seek to support the next generation of Ohio State Sailors with a new fleet of c420s! Our current fleet of seven boats has been in commission for over twenty years and has required extensive maintenance to remain in working order, so we plan to improve both the quality and size of our fleet by purchasing eight lightly used c420s. Due to our small fleet and greater attendance, many of our sailors had limited time out on the water this season. This purchase will allow us to more effectively host regattas and make sure all of our eager members get adequate time to practice.

With increasing travel costs for regattas and a major purchase to improve the future of the club, only your support can ensure our ability to provide accessible sailing to all interested Ohio State students. With our new fleet coming in, we would also like to extend the opportunity to name a boat to each of our top ten donors! We are endlessly grateful for any support you are able to offer, and we’re excited for an amazing 2024 season!

Fair winds and following seas,
