Thank You for Your Generosity

March 05, 2025

Let me start off with "WOW!"  Thanks to your generous donation, we have exceeded our goal of $2,200!

So, I'd like to take a moment and thank each one of you who donated to The Ohio State University at Marion's Student Emergency Relief Fund.  Your gift will ensure that money is available for a student experiencing an unforeseen financial crisis.  It may mean the difference between someone being able to stay in college or be forced to drop out. At the very least, it will mean you have helped remove a stressful barrier toward a student's success.

Not only have you supported students in this way, but you have also supported students in the English 3304 Business and Professional Writing course who have been running this campaign.  They set the $2,200 goal and have worked hard not only to reach but exceed it.  Over the past month, they have been able to put their skills into practice through writing emails, creating the website updates, posting on social media, and working in teams on a long-term project.  Hopefully, you can see how they are building practical skills which will help them beyond the classroom.

I am thrilled to say that we have once again run a successful campaign, and we couldn't have done it without your kindness.

Simply said, "Thank you!"

An Interview with a Buckeye Alumna

February 28, 2025

Aiden Gray interviewed Anne Yaussy.  She is an active community member and a The Ohio State University at Marion graduate.

Question: Have you heard of the OSUM Emergency Student Relief Fund before?

Answer: I had not heard about this fund until now.

Question: How did you hear about this Fund?

Answer: I heard about this fund through my daughter, who is a current OSUM student.

Question: Why do you think people should donate to this fund? Did you find the funder website to be easily accessible?

Answer: I feel people should donate to this fund because it is there to help students who have an urgent situation that they can’t control that will affect their income & ability to pay for their tuition. I feel that this fund will help students in these situations to hopefully be able to continue going to college and not have to make a choice if they can afford it or not.

I did find the website to be easily accessible.

Question: When you were in college, did you ever have an unforeseen expense that affected your time in college?

Answer: I did have some unforeseen costs during my time in college.

Question: If so, how did you handle the situation?

Answer:  When I was in college I was lucky and had a full time job and scholarship to help pay my tuition and never experienced anything that would have impacted that.

Question: If there was a student emergency fund when you were in college, would you have been aware of it or accessed it at a time of need?

Answer: If the funds were available and I needed them, I would most definitely have applied and tried to receive them if it was needed.

Question: Do you think every college should have one of these funds?

  1. Answer:  I feel all colleges should have this emergency fund. In this day and age there are so many unforeseen circumstances that can affect college students of any age, this fund would be able to help keep them continuing their education.

Transforming Lives, One Student at a Time

February 20, 2025

Hear from some OSU Marion students: these students were Emergency Fund recipients who were able to overcome a financial obstacle to help their academic success. Your donations make stories like theirs possible.

Here are a few thank you-notes shared by the fellow students.

  • Thank you for reaching back out to me. That is wonderful news that lifted me up when I read it. I cannot thank you and the rest of the committee enough for helping me during this time. I hope you and the committee have a great weekend. Thank you again.
  • I would like to thank you and the rest of the committee very much for accepting my application for this emergency grant - I can't even begin to tell you how much this will help me out at the moment. I also appreciate how quickly you guys were able to get back to me regarding the application!

Students, did you know?

February 07, 2025

Hello fellow students!

We are so excited to announce that we are officially one week into the campaign. So far, we have raised $925 and couldn’t be more thankful for all the support we’ve received from many donors.

Benefits of Donating

As a class, we have put together this campaign to build the Emergency Fund which helps our fellow students with unforeseen expensesIf you are not familiar with what this means, helping a student can be donating a simple $5 that could easily change their life. Some examples of expenses that OSUM has covered in the past include

1. Medical Bills

2. Child Care

3. Emergency Car Repairs

4. Rent/ Utilities

All of these expenses can impact a student’s life tremendously, and with the help from the donations OSUM is able to make a change.

If you or a student you know is experiencing a financial crisis situation and need some help, you can apply online here:
