Thank you!
Thank you so much! Including an offline donation that hasn't yet fully processed, this campaign received 90 donations (150% of our goal of 60 donors for 60 years!), and raised $11,342 to support CSEEES students and programming through the coming period of uncertainty. Your support means so much!
Here's to (at least) 60 more!
Last days
The outpouring of support and generosity from our community has been impressive so far. With just the weekend left, here is a final benchmark: $12,360. That amount pays for CSEEES to support the Russian language program at Columbus International High School. This year, 12 students are enrolled! Can we make it? We have until 11:59 PM on Sunday, August 31 for the campaign to raise as much money as possible.
The Home Stretch
We now have 64 donors and over $8,000 raised from this campaign. Thank you! The next benchmark is $8,500: a full summer FLAS Fellowship for a student to study in an intensive language program. These fellowships pay up to $5,000 towards tuition and give students a $3,500 stipend for room, board, books and other expenses. Can we make it to that number? Because of the uncertainty of continued federal funding, our goal is now to raise as much money as possible to backstop our programming and support our students. Please continue to share this campaign before it closes at 11:59 PM on Sunday, August 31.
CSEEES History Fact: Over the years, CSEEES students and FLAS fellows have studied at least 24 different languages of the region: Albanian, Armenian, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Dari, Estonian, Georgian, Hungarian, Lovari, Macedonian, Modern Greek, Old Church Slavonic, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Uzbek and Yiddish. Did you study another language that isn't in our records? Let us know!

Goal met! But need remains
We have met our goal of 60 donors for 60 years of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies! Thank you so much to all who donated! With 9 days remaining in the campaign, this really demonstrates the strength of our community. Though we have met our participation goal, the uncertainty of continued federal funding means that need still remains. Our goal is now to raise as much money as possible to backstop our programming and support our students. Please continue to share this fundraiser and your stories of the impacts of CSEEES programs to encourage others to support us.
Today was an exciting day at CSEEES! In addition to meeting our fundraising goal, we also welcomed the new students to campus today. Pictured below are (most of) our current MA students.

Good progress, bad news
Our community continues to show their generosity and support, helping us raise $7,376 from 54 donors, an average of $136.59 per donor. Thank you! With more than a week left in our campaign, we are well on our way to reaching our goal of 60 donors. However, since the last update we have learned that our National Resource Center and Foreign Language and Area Studies grants from the U.S. Department of Education are paused and we are unsure if we will receive the 4th year of funding (intended to cover the 2025-2026 academic year and summer 2026). Fortunately, the university administration is covering our most urgent needs while we wait for more information. Our goal is now to raise as much money as possible to backstop our programming and support our students.
CSEEES History Fact: CSEEES has awarded U.S. Department of Education Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships to Ohio State students every year since 1983, for a total of 836 awards. FLAS Fellowships are among the federal grants that are currently paused.

We have reached the next big milestone! 44 donors have donated $5,435. Wow! Thank you for your generosity. However, the pace of donations has slowed significantly as we approach the end of our campaign. We have 18 days left, and still need 16 donors to reach our goal of 60 donors for 60 years of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies. We can make it, but we need your help. Please share this campaign with others who support our mission. Orientation for the class of 2027 is next week--we can't wait to meet them and have them join our community.
CSEEES History Fact: Many of our alumni might not know, but CSEEES has an active program of trainings for K-12 and community college educators. In the 2024-25 academic year, we reached 11,490 students through the 82 teachers that participated in our workshops. If you are a friend of CSEEES who works in the field, please reach out to join us! Five weeks into our campaign, and we are making excellent progress. Our 41 donors put us 68% of the way there. Thank you so much! We have raised $4,920, very close to the $5,000 benchmark. $5,000 is particularly significant, as undergraduate Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellows receive $5,000 towards their tuition each semester, and summer fellowships (for either undergraduate or graduate students) for intensive language study also pay $5,000 for a program's tuition and fees. This year, three students attended Middlebury College's Russian program, one worked on Polish in Krakow, and another studied Serbian in Belgrade. Your support will allow us to continue to support these life-changing opportunities for our students in the future.
CSEEES History Fact: Ohio State and CSEEES have hosted the Midwest Slavic Conference every year since 2003 (and hosted occasionally before then). Below is a photo of CSEEES Director Dr. Yana Hashamova opening the keynote address in 2010. Can you spot the future Assistant Directors in the audience?

The Halfway Mark
We are just shy of halfway through our campaign with 32 days remaining, and with 32 donors, we are more than halfway to our donor goal. Thank you for your continued support! It means so much. With your help, we believe we will be able to reach our ambitious goal of 60 donors for 60 years of CSEEES.
CSEEES History Fact: If you have been following the donor wall, you may have seen a number of tributes to Dr. Charles Gribble. Dr. Gribble was a Professor of Slavic and East European Languages and Literatures at Ohio State from 1975-2010, where he taught the Structure and History of Russian, Old Church Slavonic, South Slavic Linguistics, South Slavic Cultures, Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Bulgarian, Czech and other subjects. You can read more about him in his obituary on the CSEEES website. He is pictured below with students at his retirement reception in 2010.

Don't see your favorite professor or staff member mentioned on the donor wall yet? Please continue to share and donate to help celebrate the wonderful faculty, staff and students from our 60 year history.
Three weeks
We're close to halfway there! With 26 donors, we are 43% of the way to our goal of 60 donors. We have also raised just shy of $2000, the monthly stipend for a graduate student with a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship. Will your donation or share be the one that helps us meet that benchmark?
CSEEES History Fact: Maryann Walther-Keisel has worked at CSEEES for more than 37 years, and she knows every single graduate of our MA program. We wouldn’t be where we are today without her! Below is a photo of her showing off her artistic talents at our most recent pysanky workshop.

Two weeks in, a third of the way to our goal
Two weeks in and we have made it a third of the way to our overall goal! As of today, we have raised $1,510 from 20 donors, thank you so much to everyone who has contributed so far. With this amount, we can support 5 professional development grants for our graduate students or provide books and curriculum resources for 10 educators who participate in our annual K-14 professional development programs.
On that note, it's time for this week's...
CSEEES History Fact: Did you know that CSEEES has a rich history of doing outreach in local Columbus schools? Since 2012 we have partnered with Columbus International High School (CIHS) to support a Russian language class for their students. We have also provided cultural, historical and other educational presentations to CIHS, Columbus Council on World Affairs and many other schools and programs locally and throughout the state of Ohio!
We have 46 days left to reach our final goal! Please continue to share the link to the fundraiser so that we can further support our students and community.

After one week
One week into our fundraiser we have raised $617 from 9 donors; 15% of our goal. Thank you for your support so far! These funds are equivalent to two professional development grants for CSEEES students, can cover an undergraduate FLAS Fellow’s stipend for one month, or allow us to plan a lecture with a visiting speaker who isn’t too far afield. Please continue to share the link to this fundraiser so that we can further support our students.
