Remembrance Concert

April 29, 2017

Friends and supporters of Flute Troupe,

With our last Buckeye Funder update, we want to share with you the two flutists that we will be honoring at the NFA Convention. Both Rebecca Owens and Laura Bockbrader, OSU alumni, led inspirational and musical lives, leaving us far too soon.

Rebecca “Becky” Owens grew up outside of Seattle and went to Seattle Pacific University before attending OSU for her Master of Arts. After her time in Columbus, she moved to Baltimore where she worked at the John Hopkins Hospital as an impatient Registered Dietitian. When she was thirty, she was diagnosed with cancer, which she held off until 2015, when she passed away at age thirty-three. She leaves behind her husband Nathan and her three year old son Colin.

Laura Bockbrader was a Columbus native, and attended OSU for a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. She was later employed as a Band Director for Canal Winchester and Grandview Schools, a personal trainer for Lifetime Fitness, a music therapist for assisted living nursing homes, and a member of the Overbrook Presbyterian Church. She passed away at age forty-five.

We are privileged to be playing at the National Flute Association Convention in their remembrance.

Thank you for all of your love and support,

~The Flute Troupe to NFA Project Team

We are beyond grateful for the success of our Buckeye Funder campaign, so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you! As an ensemble we are thrilled to be traveling together to the National Flute Association convention. This experience will continue to bond together our musicians, and have a profound impact on their careers.

Meet the Juniors

April 12, 2017

Friends and supporters of Flute Troupe,

With the weather so nice in Columbus this week, our students are reminded that summer is almost here. And for us, that means that our trip to NFA continues to grow closer!

This update will feature the third year students from the Ohio State University Flute Troupe, discussing the most valuable lessons that Professor Katherine Borst Jones has taught them. She is the reason that our flute students choose Ohio State as their place of study.

If you’re in Columbus, be sure to check out flutist Chris Norman in Hughes Auditorium at 8:00PM this Wednesday, April 12th. On Monday, April 24th at 7:00PM, there will be a flute studio solo recital in Hughes Auditorium.  For more information on these or other upcoming events, please visit the Ohio State School of Music events page at https://music.osu.edu/events.
