Buckeyes in Law: Moritz DC Summer Program 2022

February 7, 2022, Update: The second annual Moritz DC Summer Program Buckeye Funder is now closed. Thanks to all of you who contributed and supported the campaign. While the Buckeye Funder is closed, you can donate any time during the year to the Law Washington, DC Summer Program Scholarship Fund (Fund Number: 317150), and the donations to this fund all go to provide scholarship assistance for students enrolled in the law school's DC summer program. Your donation will also be counted toward this year's Buckeye Funder initiative if given before April 15, 2022 (otherwise will go toward the 2023 summer program). Thanks again! - Professor Chris Walker

Since 2003, the Michael E. Moritz College of Law has offered an amazing opportunity for Ohio State law students to study and work in Washington, DC each summer. The Moritz DC Summer Program annually places about twenty law students in summer internships in DC—usually in unpaid internships and most often at federal agencies, on the Hill and at non-profits. As part of the summer program, Professor Christopher Walker teaches a course entitled the Ethics of Washington Lawyering, the students write a final term paper based on a substantive legal topic related to their internship, and they meet with dozens of prominent lawyers in DC, including agency general counsels, White House lawyers, members of Congress, federal judges and top-flight public interest litigators—to provide just a few examples. For more information on the Moritz DC Summer Program, check out the program website here

The Moritz DC Summer Program attracts some of our sharpest students, including many who are interested in careers in government and public service. Including this summer, 375 Ohio State law students will have participated in the program. These students make a substantial investment to participate in the program, including last year tuition and fees in the amount of $8,445.40 for Ohio residents and $10,718.00 for nonresidents in addition to living expenses.

To make the Moritz DC Summer Program more accessible to our students and to help provide more financial flexibility for students in the program to pursue public-interest employment opportunities after graduation, we are launching our second annual Buckeye Funder campaign to encourage alums, supporters and friends of Ohio State to invest in our amazing students. Our goal is to raise $20,000 in scholarships through this initiative, which will be divided equally among the roughly twenty students enrolled in the 2022 Moritz DC Summer Program.

Please make a gift to support our Buckeyes in Law in DC and spread the word to fellow Buckeye alums, friends and supporters!
